An asteroid the size of a small moon rushes to Earth, and only a veteran NASA employee, Boston Low, has enough experience to stop him. The award-winning journalist Maggie Robbins and world-renowned geologist Ludger Brink boarded with him.
After the nuclear shot threw the asteroid into a safe orbit, the trio embarked on a standard procedure for examining a rocky surface. What they found turned out to be anything, but not standard finds for such an expedition.
Low, Brink and Robbins unwittingly activate the mechanism that transformed the asteroid into a crystalline spacecraft. The team is carried across the entire galaxy to a planet so desolate that Brink calls it Cositus, in honor of Dante´s ninth circle of hell. It is obvious that the nondescript landscape of the planet was once home to a highly developed civilization. Everywhere there are traces of thoughtful economy and advanced technology, an intricate network of underground tunnels. But not a trace of the locals.
Who were the aborigines of this once rich empire, and now the wasteland? What are these mirages mysteriously appearing from time to time? Why were Lowe, Robbins and Brink moved to this place? And how can Lowe keep the team from falling apart in the face of such uncertainty? To return to Earth, they must get to the answers not only on the surface of the planet, but also deep inside.
