In the first three years after the publication, about 10 million copies of this book were printed. Filmmakers were ready to fight for the right to film. The author of this story, Henri Sharrier, nicknamed Moth (Papillon) at the age of twenty-five, was charged with murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
